The Best MacBook Pro Hub For Airflow (USB-C)

We all love the MacBook Pro, but what we don’t love is the lack of ports! You always need to have some sort of weird dongle hanging out of the side of your laptop – which is hardly stylish. Either way, if you’re like me – then you will also have been on the lookout for a much better USB-C Hub that is designed so well that it ‘just works’, as many people say. I think I’ve found that, so I hope you are as intrigued as I was.

Compatibility

I don’t want you to have read much more of this stuff if the hub isn’t even compatible with your laptop, so below are the models that the hub is compatible with:

  • MacBook Pro 13 & 15” 2016/2017/2018 Model
  • MacBook Pro 13 & 15 & 16″ 2019 Model
  • MacBook Pro 13″ 2020

The Key Selling Points

These are key selling points of the hub, which I will discuss.

Design

If you have a MacBook Pro with 4 thunderbolt 3 ports, then you are going to love this design. Now, I have to say that I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to things like portability, efficiency and convenience – but I guess in essence I just enjoy things being tidy. The first you are going to notice in this USB-C hub is that it is very elegantly designed. Each piece of the hub clips together using the Thunderbolt 3 ports, which enables it to easily be stored in a backpack or any sort of laptop travel case. As beautifully put on the image below, it’s ‘compact and portable’! All jokes aside, the hub feels very premium and the metal is almost brushed, which makes the texture feel even nicer. Conveniently, one extra design intricacy that I have been admiring is the simple label of L and R – to signify left and right. A small thing, but so helpful if you’re just tired.

Why is the airflow so good?

The airflow is helped by the design of this hub, as when you plug each side in, the MacBook is elevated at a more comfortable angle. This also allows the vent underneath the MacBook to be far more effective, which keeps your laptop cool (especially during those more intense production sessions). As you can see below, the heat is able to dissipate faster than it otherwise would, allowing for a better experience from a usability perspective.

So what ports do you actually get?

The ports that you get are the essential ones that most people would think of, these include 3 USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C, a HDMI port, a headphone jack, 2 thunderbolt 3 ports, and an ethernet port. So essentially – whatever you want to plug in – you can.

One other thing that you may have noticed in the images is the way the ports face. If not, the ports all face backwards. This is really smart because it means that if you plug a load of devices in, you don’t have loads of wires coming out the side, but rather behind your laptop (so it just looks so much cleaner).

The HDMI supports up to a 4k resolution, and if you want to use a 5k resolution that is also possible if you use a USB Type-C cable.

Price

Now, this is where it gets a bit sticky. Let’s get straight down to it its currently 30% off at $43, and it’s usually around $65. That is quite steep for AliExpress, but the brand is BASEUS which is highly reputable in the tech industry for producing good quality, well made equipment. Although, I know this is expensive, I took the view that if I’m gonna spend that much on a MacBook Pro anyways, gotta have the right equipment and get the full package. That’s just my two cents though.

Video

There is also actually a brilliant video on the product to get a better look at it. Unfortunately, despite my attempts, it wouldn’t let me import the video directly. But I’ll connect the link to watch it to the button below (to make it even easier):

Conclusion

Sorry that this hasn’t been the longest reviews, I just believe the design speaks for itself so I wanted to share it with you. Finding out about well designed and useful tech should be shared, as if I can help reduce the frustration on your end, then that’s good for me. Due to high workloads I’ve not been writing much recently, but I will be doing a lot more over summer.
